The Trial of the Accused of the Mukhrovani Mutiny Starts Today

The trial of the accused of the Mukhrovani Mutiny begins today. Ramin Kvaratskhelia, attorney of Levan Amiridze, one of the accused, said that the investigation by the prosecutor’s office has been sent to the Tbilisi City Court.

“I was unable to study case material during the preliminary investigation. The investigation was over very fast and then it was directly sent to the Tbilisi City Court. If I am unable to study the materials I will motion to cancel the trial,” said Kvaratskhelia. There are tens of accused, militaries and civilians in the case. Their trial will be held together.

The accused persons are suspected of disobedience to the leadership which prescribes 7-12 years of imprisonment and military mutiny which prescribes the prison term up to 15 years. The accused are facing 27 years of imprisonment.

Levan Amiridze was arrested on the Tianeti highway on May 21 2009, together with Koba Otanadze, during a special operation. The law enforcers shot to death Gia Krialashvili, another suspect in the Mukhrovani Mutiny during the special operation.
Levan Amiridze and Koba Otanadze are accused of participating in the Mukhrovani Mutiny which allegedly took place on May 5, 2009 on the Mukhrovani military base.
