Telavi Governor Refuses to Take Drug Test

August 31, 2009

Telavi district governor Vasil Davitashvili refuses to take drug test as it was requested by opposition political parties; the opposition parties demanded drug tests for the officials who work in the Telavi district administration and municipality board.

Telavi district governor reported to the Kakheti News Center that he did not want to take drug test. “I will not take drug test and will not let my employees take it either. I will not insult them by similar order”,  stated Davitashvili.

Representatives of the Telavi regional organization of the “New Rights” and Conservative Party requested the employees of the Telavi district administration and municipality board to take drug tests a month ago.

“We were informed that officials working in the local self-government institutions are drug-addicts. We demand them to take drug test with the presence of representatives of impartial NGOs and journalists”, - stated representatives of the opposition.

The Kakheti regional office of the NGO Human Rights Center also requested the employees of the Kakheti district self-government to take drug tests but in vain.
