Attorneys of Beselia’s Son and Brother Are about to Send Suits to Strasbourg Court

September 1, 2009

Kutaisi Appeal Court did not satisfy the request of the attorneys of the son and brother of Eka Beselia, leader of the Political Movement for the United Georgia; the attorneys requested to cancel the verdict.

Press-center of the political movement reported that attorneys had mentioned 12 new circumstances in their application and the Appeal Court was to discuss them. “By taking similar decision, Malkhaz Guruli, judge at the Kutaisi Appeal Court, implemented political order and breached legislation as well as European Convention,” said the members of the political party.

The attorneys will sue the verdict at the European Human Rights Court and will send case materials on Rati Milorava and Sergo Beselia to Strasbourg as an example of “political persecution.”

Reportedly, the brother and son of Beselia were arrested for the quarrel in the Batumi based café “Elza” and resistance to policemen. Kobuleti Court bailed the son of Beselia and sent her brother to two-month pretrial detention.
