Makhare Makhatadze Kidnapped by Russian Occupants Three Months Ago Is at Zugdidi Hospital

October 16, 2009

Three months ago Russian occupants kidnapped Makhare Makhatadze, a resident of Zugdidi district. Currently he is taking medical treatment at Zugdidi district hospital. Giorgi Baramia, head of legitimate government of Abkhazia, reported about the incident at the press-conference today.

“According to our information, Georgian citizen Makhatadze, who was traveling across the Enguri Bridge towards Zugdidi, was arrested and ruthlessly beaten. Currently he is being treated at Zugdidi district hospital,” said Baramia.

Baramia clarified that since Georgian side cannot influence Russian occupants, they have petitioned to the EU Monitoring Mission to involve in the incident.

“We asked the Mission to react on the incident and evaluate one more fact of human rights violation by Russian occupants,” said Baramia.
