Russian Journalist Oleg Panfilov Moved to Tbilisi

November 9, 2009

Famous Russian journalist and head of Center of Extreme Journalism Oleg Panfilov moved to Tbilisi. The reason for his decision is current situation in Russia.

“I moved to Georgia because of current situation in Russia. There is no freedom of expression, biased information is spread and people are afraid to express themselves openly, it is really connected with politics,” said Panfilov.

Russian journalist said he was often threatened and insulted on internet because he protected Georgia.

“I was often threatened on internet. People expressed their hatred towards me because I support Georgia; they called me a traitor when I claimed that last year the war was Russian aggression. It is impossible to dream about restoration of the Soviet Union; imperialism is not democracy,” said Russian journalist.

Besides that, Oleg Panfilov will lead analytic program on Caucasian Channel in Georgia and will give lectures at journalistic faculty of the Ilia Chavchavadze State University. In near future, Panfilov intends to establish school of journalism and will write a book about information campaign during Russian-Georgian war.
