November 11, 2009

72-hour term for the Tbilisi City Court to reply on the solicitation of Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s attorney expires today. The term is estimated under the law.

The attorney of the accused Keti Bekauri petitions to the court to consider the decision of the Bureau for Criminalist Expertise, which concludes that chemical expertise on Tsotne Gamsakhudria was not carried out in compliance with the law. More precisely, instead 9 tests only 4 were done and put the conclusion under suspicion. Attorney requests to interrogate the expert and herewith petitions to the court for the repeated medical expertise.

According to Keti Bekauri, Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s health conditions are very poor. Nobody has visited the detention setting to carry out the expertise. He was placed in the setting with trauma on his skull and brain concussion. He had 5 stitches on the head. The condition of the accused worsened because of hunger-strike. He has been on hunger-strike for 14 days and he is not going to stop protest before the court passes verdict.

Reportedly, according to the expertise, gunpowder was detected on Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s hand, which became an evidence to blame Gamsakhurdia. He is accused in attempted murder and illegal purchase and storage of weapon. Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was sentenced to two-month pretrial detention.

Gamsakhurdia was arrested on 27 October 2009.
