“Transparency International - Georgia” Positively Assesses Cheap Insurance Program

“Transparency International - Georgia” positively assesses 5 GEL insurance policy program. According to Tamar Karosanidze, executive director of the organization stated that “so-called 5 GEL insurance scheme might not be a new and perfect social initiative, but it was right step”.

“In case of subsequent correction, this scheme might really support resolution of the healthcare problem of Georgian population which is painful for everybody. It regulates such important problems like corruption the system of state purchases, restriction of alternative variants for patients, lack of competition, high prices of medicines and so on. The program is based on the mechanism, which finances the medical service according to the results. The most important is that new scheme creates potential through interesting people to increase the funding of the healthcare system. However, the offered package is very limited (in fact it only covers urgent medical aid) and consequently people are interested in it. The low level of interest threats effective work of the scheme and hinders the improvement of the insurance system”, said Karosanidze.

According to her, it is necessary that huge number of people should involve the program:”It will assist to reduce risk and correspondingly, supports to increase insurance productivity. If medical service, through insurance, increases and regulation mechanism improve (both in insurance companies and at the government level), more people will be interested in the insurance. Consequently, in this case, insurance will have positive impact on healthcare and social fields of Georgia”.
