Protest Rally in the Waiting Room of the Regional Governor

November 20, 2009
On November 18, more than hundred traders from Ozurgeti agricultural market gathered in the waiting room of the Guria regional governor and protested the decision of the Ozurgeti district administration.

A week ago, Ozurgeti district administration decided to close the agricultural market in Ozurgeti. The ground for their decision was poor sanitary situation in the market.

The traders threaten to continue the protest rallies in future. They request the district administration to abolish its decision and to protect their social rights and interests.

Officials of the Ozurgeti district administration state the decision is final and they will not change it.

“We do not trust local government! We will continue protest rallies. Besides that we will try to protect our rights at the court too,” said the traders.

Several months ago, new trading center was opened in Ozurgeti. The people, victimized by the closure of the market, are offered to move to the new trading center to continue their activities. However, according to the traders, the entrepreneur has estimated high taxes at the new trading center.
