Election Code - from NDI Office to Paliko Kublashvili’s Office

November 30, 2009

Parliament started discussion of set of decisions made by political parties on several election issues.

On November 26 the members of the group working on election law met in the office of MP Pavle Kublashvili at the Parliament of Georgia instead NDI office. Representatives of the political parties “Entrepreneurs” and “Alliance for Georgia” did not attend the meeting.

Pavle Kublashvili was sorry for the “Alliance for Georgia” to miss the meeting. He underscored that despite different position of the “Alliance for Georgia”, already agreed decisions will be introduced into the law.

More precisely, the achieved agreements will turn into a draft-law tomorrow and they will be initiated at the bureau session on Monday.
According to the MPs from opposition parties, working on election issues will continue though it will be initiated at the parliament. Supposedly, for the second discussion, alternative proposals will be introduced about some articles.

Parliament should confirm new election code before the end of the year. Otherwise, according to MP Levan Vepkhvadze from “Christian Democratic” party, local self-governmental elections will not be held.
