Batumi Residents Bothered with Dug-Up Streets

December 7, 2009

The residents of Gogoli Street applied to the Batumi office of the Human Rights Centre; they complain about dug up streets.

“They have been repairing the street for two months. It is impossible. The streets are dangerous for our children. Several days ago, a child fell into the canal and the neighbor rescued luckily,” said one of the residents.

About 5-meters-deep canal was dug to instal water pipes in Gogoli Street. The part of street is blocked because of the ongoing repair-works and people have transportation problems.

The company New Energy won the competition and they carry out the activities in the street. According to Mirian Oniani, representative of the company, bad weather hindered their work.

Streets were initially dug in the streets in summer. Then, Batumi City Hall put up apologizing posters on billboards for tourists. Since summer they have not done works completely in any street in Batumi.
