Journalist Sues MP at the Court

December 17, 2009

Journalist of the Human Rights Centre Gela Mtivlishvili sues MP Nugzar Abulashvili from Sighnaghi district in court. Journalist requests the MP to buy a new photo-camera instead his old digital one which was broken by the MP when the journalist was implementing his professional activities.

According to Mtivlishvili, journalists which were going to cover protest rally, were attacked by the members and activists of “National Movement” according to the order of the MP on June 15, 2006. Aggressors physically assaulted the journalists and broke their equipments.

According to the official information, Gela Mtivlishvili’s camera with the price of 400 USD was destroyed during the attack. “I have evidences to confirm that the attack was initiated by the MP himself. Consequently, I requested Abulashvili several times to buy the same kind of camera instead of broken one but in vain. That’s why I sued him in court to return my camera,” said the journalist.

MP Abulashvili denies his connection with the attack. “3 people, activists of our party were accused in this incident and prosecutor’s office signed a plea bargain with them. This case is closed”
