80% of Interviewed People Do not Know Who Are District Governor and Chairperson of Municipality Board

December 28, 2009

According to the survey carried out by the Telavi office of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association, 80 % of the interviewed people do not know who are their district governor and chairperson of the municipality board.

According to the Telavi office of the GYLA, the survey was carried out within the project “Young Leaders in Public Service” and covered entire Kakheti region. People were interviewed in the towns and villages.

“We interviewed teachers, peasants, farmers and young people. It showed very negative results. 80 % of interviewed people did not know who are district governor and chairperson of the municipality board. Besides that, most of them do not know what the functions of the municipality board are,” said the representatives of the GYLA in Telavi.

Deputy regional governor Giorgi Sibashvili does not agree with the results. “I respect the GYLA but I think their survey results are not very reliable. So many people send letters to the district governor and chairperson of the municipality board that it is impossible to have similar results. We should take into consideration the fact that no personal changes have taken place in the district administration for the last year in Kakheti,” said Sibashvili.
