Patrol Police Does Not Allow Citizens to Sell Citrus

December 30, 2009

Based on the resolution N 49 of the Ozurgeti municipality board every citizen has right to trade in Shekvetili-Ureki motorway. However, patrol policemen do not allow citizens to sell citrus in the area.

Roman Putkaradze said patrol policemen told him they do not recognize the resolution of the municipality board and Kutaisi district patrol police has right to settle this issue. Victimized person went to Kutaisi and tried to find out situation at the patrol police.

“Initially they talked with me on the phone. I told I could not hear properly and finally went downstairs to meet me. They said Road Department in Tbilisi has right to release corresponding permission on trading,” said Putkaradze.

Gela Gobronidze, chairperson of the commission for urbanization and economics at Ozurgeti municipality board said citizens can sell citrus in the area.

“Patrol police acts illegally and we cannot understand why they do not allow people to sell citruses in the road within the law,” said Tamaz Trapaidze, head of Ozurgeti district office of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association.

Trapaidze added that if patrol police think agricultural products, strategically important products for Guria region, shall not be sold in the territory, they should appeal to the authoritative body which issues administrative act and request to abolish the resolution. However, they have not done it yet.
