Population Requests Abolishment of Old Petrol Station

January 12, 2010
Residents of the village of Akhalsheni in Khelvachauri district request to abolish the petrol station which does not work. People sent petition to district administration more than one month ago but Khelvachauri district administration verbally promised them to study and resolve the problem at the commission.

The petition states that the petrol station has become a shelter of drug-abusers and place for rubbish damp. “You can see everything there; among them are used syringes. The area has turned into a toilet. Our residential building is located 20-30 meters away from it. The petrol station has not been working for several years. We urge the Khelvachauri district administration to abolish it.”

“We protest existence of the petrol station here because there are not conditions necessary for the work of petrol station in the area. It is dangerous for local residents,” said Galina Oganesian.

The petrol station belongs to the Ltd Surmanidze and Company. However, it is located in the territory which was assigned to Galina Oganesian by Khelvachauri district commission for land distribution. Later, the commission annulled the resolution. Currently, argument between the Ltd and Oganesian on the 120 sq. meter of land is discussed at the court.

According to local residents, the owner of the petrol station is going to renew the station. People categorically oppose his decision. Locals request to install round-abouts for children instead petrol station.
