New Chairperson of Central Election Commission Does not Change Administration

Vice-Speaker of the parliament Rusudan Kervalishvili introduced new chairperson and members of Central Election Commission on January 20.

Legislative body approved Zurab Kharatishvili on the position of CEC chairperson and Gizo Mchedlidze, Tamaz Sharmanashvili and Konstantine Kirvalidze on the positions of commission members on January 15.

Kervalishvili hoped the people who were selected by the Parliament will hold open and transparent elections in Georgia and it will be example of democratic elections for the world.
Besides that, vice-speaker thanked opposition, non-governmental sector and international community for their participation in the process to improve election environment.

New stuff of the Central Election Commission is sure that upcoming elections will be democratic.

According to Zurab Kharatishvili, fair elections will be achieved in Georgia. New chairperson of the Central Election Commission once more stated that structural reorganizations are not planned in the commission. According to him, election administration is competent and executes its functions properly. “I hope that together we can hold elections in compliant to European standards,” he added.
