The Employees Abandon Turkish Shopping Centre

February 10, 2010

Seventeen Employees left Shopping Centre BTM in protest. They left the job after the administration requested them to clean the shopping center.

Shop assistants work at the center from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and have one-hour break on. Their salary is 200 GEL. According to them, they have not signed any labor agreements with the administration. They worked in winter, when it was very cold. They said the administration forced them to clean the shopping centre and when they refused to do it and finally left the job.

“It was not warm there and consultants had to wear special uniforms. They demanded to clean the shopping centre. They did not hire a cleaner for so long time. They told us to leave the job if we do not do it”, stated former consultants.

The administration of the shopping centre refused to make comments.

The Shopping Centre BTM opened on August 10, 2009. Levan Varshalomidze, the head of the Adjara government opened the centre and bought the first thing there: a dress for his niece.

They sell clothes produced by Batumi textile factory.
