Pupils Play in Slot and Poker Clubs During Lessons

According to the monitoring carried out by journalists of Kakheti News Centre, pupils play in slot and poker clubs near the schools during lessons.

Representatives of Kakheti News Centre carried out such monitoring in Telavi and Gurjaani districts on February 10. As a result of monitoring journalists found 12 pupils and 17 more people under age of 18 in two so-called poker clubs from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. During monitoring journalists also met an official of Gurjaani district office of the MIA in the poker-club near Gurjaani agricultural market. Policeman said he was supervising the situation in the poker-club, but children were playing with him.

According to the directors of the slot and poker clubs, there are special notifications in clubs which prohibit children under 18 to enter the club.

According to the head of Telavi office of Georgian Young Lawyers Association Marekhi Mgaloblishvili, according to the Article 176 of Administrative Code, participation of children under 18 in similar games is offence for what owner of the club is fined with 5000 GEL. According to the second paragraph of the same article, if the offence is repeated the fine will be 10000 GEL” said the lawyer.

According to official information, in 2010 district policemen have not discovered any of similar offenses in Telavi and Gurjaani districts.
