Judge Giorgi Adeishvili Might Discuss Girgvliani’s Case in European Court

February 15, 2010

Georgia had to introduce a specially selected judge for Sandro Girgvliani’s case in Human Rights European Court before February 12. The Ministry of Justice does not publish the name of the judge but the Human Rights Center was informed that supposedly, judge of the Appeal Court Giorgi Adeishvili will participate in the case discussion.

“Before the court approves the introduced candidate, we cannot publish his name,” said representatives of the press-center of the Ministry of Justice.

Discussion of Sandro Girgvliani’s case was postponed in Strasbourg Court for two times. Initially it was postponed in November 2010 based on the request of the government of Georgia. The trial scheduled for February 2, 2010 was postponed by the judge Nona Tsotsoria, who was appointed by Georgian government for case discussion, but she refused to participate in case discussion.

In summer of 2007, the family of Sandro Girgvliani appealed to the European Court of Human Rights under four articles. The case discussion at the European Court is scheduled by the end of March.
