Koba Davitashvili’s Suit to Human Rights Court in Strasbourg

February 22, 2010

Suit of the leader of People’s Party Koba Davitashvili was sent to the Human Rights Court of Strasbourg. Non-governmental organization Human Rights Priority reported to the Pirveli that the suit is about dispersal of the peaceful demonstration on November 7, 2007 and kidnapping of Koba Davitashvili from the territory of so-called Eliava market in Tbilisi. Kidnappers physically assaulted Davitashvili, pushed him into the car and drove him in the unidentified direction. Later, Koba Davitashvili was placed in Gori military hospital for numerous injuries on his body.

Lawyers Lia Mukhashavria and Nika Kvaratskhelia stated that in accordance to the suit, several articles of the Human Rights European Convention were breached in regard with Davitashvili; more precisely, articles 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 14.

According to Koba Davitashvili, criminal prosecution on this fact was launched immediately. Although there were a lot of witnesses and proofs to investigate the case impartially, the results of the investigation are not known even two years later.

“I kindly request the European Court to confirm that abovementioned articles of the European Convention of Human Rights and Basic Freedoms were breached in regard with me. Later, it shall become basis for repeated, complete and unbiased investigation on the crime,” said Davitashvili.
