Sokhumi Regime Has Not Decided to Sell Property to Russian Citizens

February 24, 2010

The question to give Russian citizens right to purchase property in Abkhazia is not decided yet. According to the news agency “Apsni Press” Sergey Baghapsh made statement about it.

According to the leader of Sokhumi de facto regime, the question is discussed and it must be studied seriously.

“There are many suggestions. We will discuss this question with leadership, security council, non-governmental organizations, government and of course with opposition,” stated Sergey Baghapsh when he commented the statement of presidential candidate Raul Khajimba.

Baghapsh remarked that property has been sold in Abkhazia for a long time and it is purchased mostly by Russian citizens, who receive Abkhazian citizenship illegally.

Baghapsh thinks that the question requires serious discussion and final decision should be very profitable for Abkhazia.

“Independent State of Abkhazia is a subject of international law. That’s why it must comply with the standards of international law. We cannot live in isolation from the rest of the world, ” stated Baghapsh.

The former presidential candidate of de-facto Abkhazia, main oppositionist of Baghapsh Raul Khajimba stated at the press conference on February 23 that selling property to Russian citizens in Abkhazia will create serious problems.

During his visit in Moscow from16 to18 February Sergey Baghapsh stated that Russian citizens will be able to purchase accommodations and other estates in Abkhazia.
