British Ambassador to Georgia Protests His Involvement in “Simulated Chronicle”

March 16, 2010

British Ambassador to Georgia Denis Keefe protests his involvement in the “simulated Chronicle”. Namely, he protested his alleged statement in the fake report. According to him, it was disrespect to the Ambassador and it will damage the reputation of Georgia.

“The telecast used by TV-Company “Imedi”, where I am speaking about completely different topic, and has nothing to do with the events described in the program of March 13, are very confusing as well as the telecast where the president of Georgia and British Prime-Minister are speaking about unreal events,” said Denis Keefe in his special statement today.

“I want to explain that neither I nor the British government has anything to do with the irresponsible report, which caused panic among the population. I think the telecast of the TV-Imedi was disrespect to me as British Ambassador and it will make negative influence on the reputation of Georgia”, he said.

The ambassador said ‘it will be good if Imedi TV will announce as soon as possible that the report was not real, that I had not been informed about the report and my interview had been used without my consent’.

In the fake report on Imedi TV, ambassadors of France, the Check Republic, and Great Britain allegedly made comments for journalists after a meeting regarding Russian intervention at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. The fake program also showed British Prime Minister Gordon Brown who allegedly talked with President Saakashvili on a telephone, where he confirmed his support to territorial integrity of Georgia and appealed to Russia to restrain from military aggression.
