Kvareli District Governor Requests Apologize from Journalist

March 17, 2010

Kvareli district governor Levan Gamsakhurdia protests the title of the journalistic investigation about seizing the land from Solomon Khakhutashvili. The district governor requests the author of the investigation to apologize to the society.

“Calling clergymen with similar epithets (Feudal in Cassocks) is incorrect, insulting and unacceptable for the society. We are astonished by the fact. Who gave the title to the article should apologize to the society,” said Kvareli district governor in his interview with the Kakheti News Center.

Journalist Gela Mtivlishvili prepared the journalistic investigation Feudal in Cassock for Studio Monitor. According to the investigation, Solomon Khakhutashvili assigned his plot to Nekresi Eparchy for free. The facts demonstrate that under directives of the eparchy leader local officials and district prosecutor’s office seized the land from him through blackmailing.

The author of the investigation said Kvareli district governor has nothing to do with the titles of the article.

“It is not first fact of his attempt to interfere in the professional activities of the journalist. Gamsakhurdia should rather attend to the matters that are within his competence and should not waste time on spreading statements instead paying attention to the people victimized by the recent natural disaster,” said journalist Gela Mtivlishvili.
