Investigative Group of Journalists Will Be Set Up in Kakheti Region

April 6, 2010
Investigative group of journalists will be set up in Kakheti region. The aim of the project is to expose human rights violations in the region and carry out journalistic investigation on concrete cases; popularization of the investigative journalism through internet-publications and increase of government’s accountability before the population.

“There is no media source in Kakheti region working on journalistic investigations. In 2009 we prepared two journalistic investigations. Region based TV-stations refused Studio Monitor to release their films. Local TV-companies and regional newspapers are closed for journalistic investigations. And this fact supports creation of non-democratic environment in the region,” said project director Gela Mtivlishvili.

The project was supported by the Eurasian Partnership Foundation. The project is part of the EU funded project – “Strengthening the Media Role as a Watchdog Institution in Georgia” which is implemented by the Eurasian Partnership Foundation in cooperation with the Georgian Young Lawyers Association and Association of Regional Broadcasters in Georgia.

Kakheti News Center is an independent media-organization whose aim is to provide information prepared with high professional level based on journalistic ethic principles.
