IDP Family in Khurvaleti Settlement Complains About Unbearable Conditions

April 13, 2010
IDPs from various villages of Shida Kartli region living in Khurvaleti settlement complain about unbearable conditions in their cottages.

An IDP from Khurvaleti settlement Marina Bezhashvili said in her interview with the Radio “Hereti” about 25 IDPs who left the settlement.

“We do not receive products within UN program; we do not have fire-wood either. We were made to spend entire winter in the cold. Very often we do not have electricity. So, most part of IDPs left Khurvaleti settlement and sheltered their relatives; nevertheless, the conditions are not improved in Khurvaleti,” said Marina Bezhashvili.

She said they left the settlement partly because of her sick mother. The doctors diagnosed a terrible illness and there were not proper conditions for her in the settlement; they do not have enough funds either.

The only assistance they receive is 78 GEL for three members of the family.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation Eka Gulua reported to the Radio Hereti that the ministry is not responsible to provide IDPs with food in the settlements.

“You should apply to the UN to clear up this issue. As for the electricity, you should get in touch with the Energo-Pro Georgia. We implement all our responsibilities properly,” said Eka Gulua.
