A Citizen on Hunger-Strike in the Kakheti Office of the Human Rights Center

April 13, 2010
Socially disabled citizen Lida Kokoeva started hunger-strike in the Kakheti office of the Human Rights Center. Kokoeva blames the Kakheti region coordinating office of the Agency for Social Aid in illegal ceasing of the allowance and requests to restore it. Otherwise, she is not going to leave the office.

“I am an only mother; my child is imprisoned. I live in the room of watchman at Gurjaani district Communication Company together with my 78-year-old father. Because of illness, neither I nor my father can work. Before October of 2009 I received allowance; our rating was 43 710 points. In October social agent Morbeladze visited us, who evaluated our family and granted 79 610 points; consequently we lost the allowance. I cannot understand why the number of points increased. We live in the watchman’s room where we have soviet time fridge, spoilt washing machine and color TV-set which was gift. The only thing for what the agent filled in the declaration tendentiously was my Ossetian ethnicity. I was fired from work three times. I requested the agency to evaluate our family once more but they said we had to wait for one year,” said Lida Kokoeva.

Coordinator of the Kakheti office of the Human Rights Center Gela Mtivlishvili said the citizen has fair complaints. According to the human rights organization, they have already appealed to the Kakheti regional administration regarding Kokoeva’s case.
