April 23, 2010
News Agency “Pirveli” reported that the new chief of the Special Operative Department within the MIA, Devi Chelidze, is a former employee of the Constitutional Security Department. That means, Chelidze is close to the real head of the CSD Data Akhalaia and head of general inspection of the MIA, Vasil Sanodze.
According to the lobby interviews in the law enforcement bodies, the author of the scandalous audio-recording of the late businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili, Erekle Kodua, was removed from the high position because of his changed political views. More precisely, he supports Adeishvili-Ugulava-Liberty Institute while he was an ally of Vano Merabishvili before.
Several days ago, Vano Merabishvili ordered to arrest the brother-in-law of Erekle Kodua, Erekle Zhorzholiani, together with several people for the resistance to the policemen; they were sentenced to two-month pretrial detention. Before this incident, Kodua and Akhalaia had a conflict which turned into a physical quarrel too. The relationship has been worsened between Erekle Kodua and Vano Merabishvili.
According to the spread information, the minister of internal affairs cursed the high-ranking official. This incident did not end without any consequences and several days later the expensive car of Erekle Kodua was arrested at Lilo custom’s house in accordance to the orders of the high-ranking officials of the CSD. In addition to that, abasement of Kodua is not caused by only his political views; the high-ranking officials had their interests in business and had disagreement because of it.
People also speak about the “increased requirements” of Koduas which bothered Saakashvili. Nobody has reported to “Pirveli” whether this incident will cause additional personnel changes in the law enforcement institutions. However, the high-ranking officials of the MIA state that the governmental team of Merabishvili-Akhalais got rid of Kodua.
