May 5, 2010
Leaders of the district offices of the opposition political parties protest participation of the clergymen in the pre-election campaign of the National Movement in Kakheti region.

Representatives of the opposition parties stated at the meeting organized by the Transparency International –Georgia that on April 29, when the chairman of the parliament Davit Bakradze introduced the candidates of the National Movement in Gurjaani district, Father Giorgi Getiashvili attended the meeting. Head of the Kvareli district office of the Movement for the Just Georgia Davit Tochilashvili said the Kvareli district governor Levan Gamsakhurdia, who is head of the HQ of the National Movement, drives the car of the Hereti and Nekresi Eparchy Bishop Father Sergi Chekurishvili. The head of the Lagodekhi district office of the NM Giorgi Mchedilishvili said the clergyman of the village Vardisubani in Lagodekhi district Father Mamuka prohibited the parish to take part in the program “Door by Door” of Noghaideli’s party. According to the opposition parties, clergymen supported the National Movement.

The priest of the Vardisubani church Father Mamuka denies the accusations of the opposition parties. “How did they invent those stories? I have nothing to do with it. I have not prohibited anybody to participate in the program and I do not interfere in the elections at all,” said the clergyman.
