Tina Kaidanow Met NGO Representatives

May 14, 2010
On May 13, United States Deputy Secretary of State Tina Kaidanow met the representatives of the Georgian non-governmental organizations in the US Embassy in Tbilisi.

The members of the Multinational Georgia, Fair Elections, New Generation-New Initiative and magazine “Liberal” attended the meeting.

The editor of the magazine “Liberal” Shorena Shaverdashvili reported to the journalists that they discussed the pre-election situation in the country. Shaverdashvili said Tina Kaidenow was interested in the activities of the Central Election Commission and media reporting on the election process.

“It was close meeting and we cannot speak about details. However, I want to point out that Kaidenow is particularly interested in the approaching elections. It was mentioned at the meeting that the activities of the CEC have improved. They are interested in the media situation; how national TV-Companies highlight the pre-election campaign,” said Shorena Shaverdashvili.

Chairman of the Multinational Georgia Arnold Stepanian said Tina Kaidenow was interested in the monitoring process carried out by NGOs. Stepanian said there are some problems in monitoring process and they informed Tina Kaidenow about them.

“The NGOs face some problems while monitoring the elections. They are mostly observed in the regions. We cannot monitor the process in Marneuli and Gardabani districts,” said Arnold Stepanian.
