National Council Filed Complaint against Kvareli District Election Commission at the CEC
May 14, 2010
National Council filed complaint on the decision of the Kvareli district election commission on the abolishment of the list of political parties at the Central Election Commission. The coordinator of the National Council Vladimer Bozhadze reported about it.
He said Kvareli district election commission incorrectly interpreted the law.
“As a result of the oppression and blackmailing of the candidates from the National Council in the municipal elections, several candidates refused to be on the list of the party. Thus, the list of candidates of the National Council in Kvareli district is less than 10 members. Kvareli district election commission appealed and abolished the election list of the National Council. This illegal decision shall be annulled by all means,” said the coordinator of the National Council.
Vladimer Bogadze clarified that Article 118 of the Election Code states that list of the political party shall consist of at least 10 candidates when it is submitted to the CEC and the National Council did not breach this requirement of the law.
“It is not written in the law that if the party list is reduced after it is submitted to the CEC, it shall be annulled. Although, there is a note that if the number of candidates is less than 10 as it is estimated by the law, the list shall be annulled, it works for the parliamentary elections and not for the municipal elections. Thus, the National Council has not breached the law,” said Bozhadze.
He is going to appeal against the illegal decision at the CEC. The coordinator appeals to the minister of internal affairs to stop oppression and blackmailing of the opposition candidates by policemen.
