Lawyers VS Patrol Police

May 17, 2010
Lawyers, who hold protest manifestation in front of the parliament building, will sue the patrol police. One of the lawyers Shalva Khachapuridze reported about it.

He said their manifestation in front of the parliament is sanctioned and lawyers can set up tents too; however, policemen do not allow them to.

“About 200 policemen attacked us –15 people. When we told them we had permission from the City Hall; they said they know it but despite that did not allow to set up tents. We are not marginalized power. We are lawyers and we will not put up with the next illegal act of the government,” said Shalva Khachapuridze.

The lawyer added that a suit was prepared regarding the incident and on May 17 they will bring it to the prosecutor’s office. The protest manifestation in front of the parliament will continue. Based on the permission from the Tbilisi City Hall the lawyers can continue their protest till June 10.

Group of lawyers requests to introduce amendments to the Election Code. They want to install video-cameras in every polling station; to staff the election commissions based on equality principle and to introduce 50% barrier in the elections.
