Sopio Khorguani Protests Destruction of Election Posters

Single mandate candidate from the Alliance for Georgia Sopio Khorguani protests destruction of election posters of their election block.

Khorguani reported that the election posters were massively destroyed during the pre-election campaign. Their posters were pasted in central streets where patrol police cars permanently move; however, the police have not reacted/eradicated the violation at all.

Sopio Khorguani appeals to the Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili, head of Patrol Police Department of Georgia Giorgi Grigalashvili and head of Tbilisi patrol police department Giorgi Gegechkori.

The candidate said that in accordance to the Article 75 Part IV of the Election Code of Georgia removal, tearing off, over-pasting and deconstruction of the election posters is punished under the law. According to the Article 126' of the same code the person who hinders the distribution of election materials shall be punished by 1 000 GEL.

“Reformed law enforcement bodies should protect the justice, legality and human rights. The police shall not be politicized,” said Sopio Khorguani who requests respond to the violations.
