GYLA Presented Mid-Term Report on Election Monitoring Results

May 25, 2010
The Georgian Young Lawyers Association presented the second mid-term report on the results of the pre-election monitoring. The report covers the period from April 23 to May 22.

Chairwoman of the Sighnaghi district office of the Movement for the United Georgia Maia Sukhishvili reported to the GYLA that Natalia Mirianashvili, agitator of the candidate from the National Movement Iuri Zezelashvili, told the socially disabled resident of the village Khirsa Zelimkhan Kizizeinab to vote for the National Movement if he did not want to lose the humanitarian aid (wheat flour, sugar and oil).

Chairman of the Telavi district office of the Conservative Party Gogita Mosiashvili said that at the beginning of April his disabled father lost allowance for no reason because they had not purchased anything that could increase their rating points. His sister Tamar Mosiashvili, who worked as an education expert at the Ministry of Education, was fired on April 29, 2010 based on the resolution 12-2. Mosiashvili claims the reason was his political activities.

Chairman of the Sighnaghi district office of the Alliance for Georgia Malkhaz Khutsishvili stated that activists of the National Movement collect IDs and record their data. Malkhaz Khutsishvili said those who refuse the activists to give IDs, are threatened with firing them or their family members from jobs.

GYLA’s report discussed the participation of the Gurjaani district prosecutor in the pre-election campaign of the National Movement.

“On May 12, chief prosecutor of Georgia Murtaz Zodelava made statement about the election process. He reminded his colleagues the requirements of the election law regarding their participation in the pre-election campaign. He called upon the employees of the prosecutor’s office not to interfere in the election campaign at all. However, before the chief prosecutor made the statement, on April 29 Gurjaani district prosecutor Gela Lazashvili attended the introduction of the party list and single mandate candidates of the ruling party in the Gurjaani culture center,” the report stated.
