An Infant and Mother Are Captured in Maternity House # 5 for 7 Days Already

May 28, 2010
An infant and his 16-year-old mother Natia N are not allowed to leave the Tbilisi Maternity House # 5 for seven days already. The mother of Natia N. - L. Arabuli reported to the Kakheti News Center that the girl had caesarean delivery and doctors request 950 GEL from them. The mother and child are not allowed to leave the maternity house before the money is paid.

“We have arrived there several times and asked to let us write a notification where we will promise to pay the money as soon as we get a job to earn some money; we will also collect money in the village. However; they refuse to dismiss mother and child again. In parallel to it; every day we have to pay additional 50 GEL. We applied to the village and Dedoplistskaro district governors for help but they refused to assist us saying they do not have funds. I even tried to collect money in the village but everybody is poor and could not assist us. I do not know what to do. We are very poor family; you can check it on the place; despite that nobody granted a social allowance to us; if we had had at least medical policy we would not have faced similar problem. The poor seem not to have right to have a child,” said L. Arabuli.

The personnel of the Tbilisi Maternity House # 5 do not comment on the fact. Interim governor of Dedoplistskaro district Nikoloz Shanshiashvili stated that the district administration can allocate only 300 GEL from the social packet of the local budget. “They have not applied to me personally; let them come to my office and we will assist them with 300 GEL,” said Shanshiashvili.
