Woman Jumped Out of the Window of Ozurgeti Maternity House

July 1, 2010
37-year-old woman jumped out of the window of Ozurgeti district maternity house and died. Before that she was protected by policemen. Mother of two children, resident of the village of Silauri in Ozurgeti district was brought to the Ozurgeti maternity house by ambulance one week ago.

The chief doctor of the hospital Davit Mdinaradze said that the women had strong bleeding. Although she and her family members claimed she had fibroma but doctors soon guessed that she had just delivered a child.

The doctors demanded the family members to bring the new-born child to the hospital whether he was dead or alive. After refusal, the doctors had to call police. The police discovered a dead male infant at home.

The woman was immediately operated at hospital. Doctor Mdinaradze said if the woman was late for at least several minutes, she could have died. Her general conditions were satisfactory. The policeman guarded the patient and on June 28 she was to be dismissed from hospital. But on June 27 the woman jumped out of the window.

As it was cleared up, the policemen were not with the women on that day. The patient asked the nurse to let her go to the toilet. As soon as she left the chamber, she rushed to the first window and jumped out. The woman was immediately placed in intensive therapy department but she died soon.

“We observed her lungs all the time, but it was impossible to help her. Sometimes we had feeling that she soon lost conscious and died,” said doctor Ketevan Malazonia.

The press-center of the Guria regional department of the MIA does not comment on the accident. Doctor Dato Mdinaradze said the doctors did their best to help the woman. She was healthy enough and could walk after deliver. But everything ended in disaster.

People say the woman was afraid of the future liability.
