Zemo Khodasheni School Director Threatens Oppositionist Teachers with Dismissal

July 1, 2010
Director of the public school in the village of Zemo Khodasheni in Akhmeta district Bela Bakhbakhishvili, who is also member of the Akhmeta district municipal board from the ruling party, threatens the teachers supporting the opposition parties with dismissal. The Human Rights Center reported about it.

According to the human rights organizations, teacher of history at school Leila Javakhiashvili was candidate of the opposition party Alliance for Georgia in the elections of May 30, 2010. Bakhbakhishvili threatened her to punish after elections.

“Yesterday she held meeting of teachers and told me she would have fired me from school long before if it was within her competence. She also warned oppositionist teachers to give less than 18 working hours at school after what we might have to leave the job. She warned us not to file complaints against her. I am a lonely person; I have worked at school for 30 years. I am not old and why should she fire me?” asked Leila Javakhishvili.

School director Bela Bakhbakhishvili does not comment on the fact.

The lawyer of the Kakheti office of the Human Rights Center Lia Khuroshvili stated that the organization will monitor the situation in the public school of Zemo Khodasheni to defend the rights of the teachers.
