Alasania’s Political Party Calls Upon the Government to Execute Interim Judgment of the European Court on Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s Case

July 2, 2010

Alasania’s political party calls upon the government to execute interim judgment of the European Court on Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s case.

“Our Georgia – Free Democrats” appreciates the decision of the European Court of Human Rights of May 30 regarding the temporary activities in Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s case.

“Based on this interim decision, Strasbourg Court requested the government of Georgia to place Tsotne Gamsakhurdia in hospital where his health conditions will be rehabilitated after long hunger-strike. Based on the same decision, the government of Georgia shall ensure Tsotne Gamsakhurdia’s meetings with his attorney without delay,” statement of the Free Democrats.

It also states that the Strasbourg Court asked the government of Georgia to provide them with the complete medical history of Tsotne Gamsakhurdia in near future; the penitentiary department opened the medical history from the day of his detention.

“Strasbourg Court requested Tsotne Gamsakhurdia to stop hunger-strike and do not start any protest before his appeal is discussed. Free Democrats call upon the government to execute the interim decision of the European Court. If the decision is not executed properly, Articles 34 and 38 of the European Convention will be breached and the disobedience of the government will be discussed at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe,” stated the political party.

The Free Democrats also call upon Tsotne Gamsakhurdia to obey the decision of the European Court and stop hunger-strike in order to enable the European Court to estimate the truth.
