“We Were Allowed to Do Everything before Elections but Now We are Not People”

July 7, 2010
An incident occurred in the village of Chumlaki in Gurjaani district. Patrol policemen forbade the farmers to sell peaches on the Telavi-Tbilisi motor-way and it caused protest of the population.

The peasants reported to the Kakheti News Center that they managed to stay on the road after the incident but the policemen did not allow the drivers to stop cars to buy peaches. “They have been torturing us for three days. Maturated peaches went rot and we gave it to pigs. Before elections they allowed us to do everything but now we are not people. We visited the district administration but district governor Shota Utiashvili did not meet us saying it was not a meeting-day,” complained peasants.

The population urged the Kakheti regional governor for help. Otherwise they will block the Telavi-Tbilisi road way.
