Human Rights Center Demands Punishment of District Governor for the Intimidation of School Director

Human Rights Center Demands Punishment of District Governor for the Intimidation of School Director

Kakheti office of the Human Rights Center demands punishment of Dedoplistskaro district governor Levan Baghashvili for having abused his power by intimidating the director of Public School N 1. The human rights organization will bring suit to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia against the district governor.

According to the Human Rights Center, many people confirm that Maia Lapiashvili, director of the Dedoplistskaro Public School N 1, is persecuted by the district governor. During the elections of Board of Trustees at public schools of Georgia on June 14, officials of the district administration – head of Social Department, secretary of the district governor, chairperson of the municipality board and other officials – were members of the election commission and observers. The representative of the Human Rights Center also observed the election process at the school. He reported that the officials of the district administration oppressed people to vote for the candidate acceptable for the local authority. “Several candidates refused to take part in the elections on the previous days because of intimidation. They claimed the officials from the district administration oppressed them,” it was said in the statement of the Human Rights Center.

District governor Levan Baghashvili does not confirm the accusations against him. “My mother Tamar Baghashvili really was a rival of Maia Lapiashvili in the elections of the school director but since Lapiashvili won the elections everything ended peacefully,” said the district governor.
