Kakheti Social Service Agency Coordination Center Manager is Dismissed

July 23, 2010

The manager of the Kakhetiregional Social Service Agency coordination centre, Otar Sesikashvili, was released from his position. Former chairman of the Telavi municipal council, Levan Akhalauri, was appointed as his replacement.
Teona Kaldan, the secretary to the manager of Kakheti regional coordination centre, told the Kakheti information centre that Akhalauri was appointed for this position on July 14. However he had not reported for work until now. According to Kaldan, Akhalauri has been in Tbilisi for job training. Otar Sesikashvili was transferred to Tbilisi as an adviser-consultant at the central office of the social service agency.
It is also noteworthy that Otar Sesikashvili is the nephew of Vakhtang Megrelishvili, the former secretary of the health care minister. According to Non-Governmental Organizations, the efforts of the government program to combat poverty in Kakheti were ineffective.  Despite expressed complaints by those in need of such assistance, Sesikashviki avoided responsibility for various mistakes and oversights over several years as he was under the political protection of his uncle.
