“NO” Movement blames Tbilisi City Court Judge for Unlawful Imprisonment of Akaki Darsalia

July 19, 2010

The “No” movement leader Levan Chtadze blames the Tbilisi City Court judge, Nino Sandoradze, for unlawful detainment of his organization member, Akaki Daraselia.
On June 14, when there was a court hearing for organization member, Luarsab Zhvania,  Akaki Darsalia left the court room to demonstrate his protest for Zhvania being tried for injustices during the sitting movement. He declared that Luarsab Zhvania was Vano Merabishvili’s private prisoner. Soon after, Darsalia was taken back into the court hall and the judge, Nino Sandoradze, sentenced him to a one month imprisonment for disrespecting the court. This is all according to Levan Chitadze as he spoke at a press conference today.
As Levan Chitadze declared, since 2003 not one person has been so severely punished for disrespecting the court. It is usual for judges to establish some financial penalties, but no one has been imprisoned before.
Mr. Chitadze declared that this is a political decision because Daraselia is a member of the “No” movement.
Levan Chitadze also noted that the ombudsman had no reaction when he was informed of this fact.  A detailed report with concrete evidence about him not fulfilling his duties will be presented to Euro commission, more specifically to Per Eclund, declared Mr. Chitadze.
