Court Comments Concerning Capture of “No” Movement Member

July 20, 2010

The Tbilisi City Court has made comments in response to the “No” movement’s statement about the unlawful capture of their member Akaki Darsalia.
As the Tbilisi City Court’s Press Center announced to “Interpressnews” on June 14, Akaki Darsalia verbally insulted the court and demonstrated a physical insult to the court guard after Luarsab Zhvania was found guilty.
The court declared that according to article 208 of the procedural code of criminal law, the head of Tbilisi city court, and not judge Nino Sandoradze as the “No” movement declared, sentenced Darsalia to 30 days imprisonment.
The court specifies that disrupting order in a court room and showing disrespect for the procedural code of criminal law is subject to such responsive sanctions.
Today “No” movement leader, Levan Chitadze, spoke at a press conference and blamed judge Nino Sandoradze in unlawful decision. As Chitadze stated, since 2003 not one person has been so severely punished for disrespecting the court. It is usual for judges to establish some financial penalties, but no one has been imprisoned before.
