IDPs plan to hold Protest Rally on July 30

July 29, 2010
IDPs evicted from the former publishing house ’’Samshoblo’’ are to hold their next protest rally on July 30 at the Ministry of Economics building.

The IDPs are asking for accommodation in Tbilisi from the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees. Accompanying this request they held a protest rally on July 28 in front of the Ministry building.

The Ministry’s offer of providing accommodation in the regions is unacceptable for the IDPs. Moving to the regions will cause many of them to lose their jobs and other sources of income.

As for the IDP Ministry’s position, Press Service Director, Eka Gulua, said the Ministry will not change its offer and feels that completely rehabilitated accommodations on private property is sufficient.

The protest rally held at the IDP Ministry had numerous participants, including people evicted from ’’Samshoblo’’ and internally displaced persons temporarily living at other residences who declared that they are also concerned and fear the threat of being evicted.

The protest rally was also attended by one of the leaders of the Conservative Party, Lasha Chkhartishvili. He called on the unity of the IDPs, and more active and large scale expression.
