“The Human Rights Centre” demands Public Defender’s Office to investigate case of the Qemashvili Family

July 23, 2010
NGO “The Human Rights Centre” demands the Public Defender’s Office to investigate and respond to the case of the Qemashvili family, residing in Tsnori, Sighnaghi region.
As the Centre declared, the Sighnnaghi branch of Social Service Agency, following the verdict of regional court, seized all three Qemashvili children. “In all three cases, the agency could not confirm the justification for taking the youngsters to an orphanage.  Regardless, Judge Khvicha Kikilasvili satisfied the request of the Child Protective Agency by taking the children away from their biological mother. We at the Centre have called upon the Public Defender’s Office to study this case as soon as possible and react to it. How the Child Protective Agency discriminates and treats families differently based on their social status needs to be investigated,” noted the human rights organization.
