The Next Protest Rally Held by the IDPs

August 9, 2010
The IDPs from the compact settlements held a protest rally at the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation. The refugees are asking for the legalization of their residence places.
As the IDP, Dimitri Omanadze states, there are 150 families living in the former eighth hospital. They’ve been living in this building since the 1993 Abkhazia war. The building is under the balance of Ministry of Economics.
According to him, the IDPs are asking for the legalization of their residence places; they addressed the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation, the Parliament, Public Defender, but their request has never been responded.
According to information of Omanidze, they’ve never been compensated by the government since the Abkhazia war.
The IDP Tatiana Esiava is also asking for the registration of her residence place. As she stated, 43 families of IDPs from Abkhazia and 8 families from Gori are living here.
According to him, IDPs from Abkhazia were placed in this building 2 years ago, after the August war. Before that, they were under the rent. They’ve never been given a residence place from the government.
An IDP from Abkhazia, Andro ATiniani states that he’s been living in the ophthalmologic center near Ortachala since 1993. According to his statement, there are 60 families living here. This building has been purchased by “PSP” and IDPs are forced to leave the building. They are offered an accommodation at Kukia Burn Recovery Center.  According to him, this offer is unacceptable for them since the burn recovery center is operating on the first floor.
“The building is a hearth for different infections and it’s dangerous for kids to live here,’’ – notes Andro Atiniani.
According to IDPs, they’ve never been compensated by the government. The only help they get is the 28 lari assistance. They are asking for the registration of their residence place.
The conservative party representative Lasha Chkhartishvili was present at the rally. The protest rallies will be held every Thursday, at 12.00. The next protest rally is planned at the President’s Avlabari Residence
