In Batumi, in the territory of so called Adlia, the house of Ninidze family is being destroyed

August 11, 2010
In the city of Batumi, in the territory of so called Adlia, the house of Ninidze family, according to the decision of the city hall, is being destroyed. The case concerns 2700 square meter land situated near the sea with a house and a garden on it. The police and City Hall Supervision Service officials are on the field at this moment taking out the furniture from the house and taking down the windows.
The City Hall Supervision Service mentions the law on expropriation to be the basis of the destruction of Ninidze family house. According to them, this house hinders construction of a new road. But, it should be noted, that the road has already been constructed and this house has not hindered the process of construction.
According to the decision of February 2, 2010 of Batumi City Court, Batumi City Hall granted the right of expropriation on the Ninidze house to Batumi City Hall. Ninidze family was informed about the court decision on June 14th.
“The mayor of Batumi Robert Chkhaidze visited us and said that we would be given alternative residence place, but he never fulfilled his promise. Today morning, approximately 200 police officials came without warning and asked us to empty house,” – states the family member Nino Ninidze.
The family members called today’s government action an act of vandalism and stated that in the nearest future they will submit a complaint to the Strasbourg Court.
