Out of orphanage to the streets

August 11, 2010
18 years old Giorgi left Signagi Region, Zemo Bodbe School boarding-school 3 months ago. Since then he has been sleeping in the church yard in Tsnori.

“I lived in Bodbe orphanage. But I left it. I finished it. When you become 18, they let you go. I don’t have parents. My house is ruined, I don’t have a shelter to live in,” – says Giorgi.

It’s been couple of days he’s taking free meals in Tsnori free dining-room. Tsnori population adviced him to go there.

According to the main tutor at Zemo Bodbe boarding-school, when a student becomes 18, he/she can’t stay in the school. Giorgi was dismissed for this reason. “Two or three days ago we found out that he sleeps in the streets. When the children are dismissed from the orphanages, the ones who don’t have parents, start living in the streets. The state doesn’t help them at all,” – notes Alina Qadagidze.
