“Freedom House” Interested in Labor Rights in Georgia

September 3, 2010
Freedom House described human rights situation of Trade Unions and workers in 165 states throughout the world.

The authors of the report outline serious and systematic violations of internationally recognized labor norms: Free, Mostly Free, Partly Free, Repressive, and Very Repressive. According to the report, one-third of the global population lived in societies in which workers’ rights suffered a significant degree of repression. Georgia was in the group of Partly Free states.

The report of the Freedom House, which is published on the official website of the influential American organization, does not describe the real situation in Georgian in details. However, the indicators which influence the rating of the state are known.

One of similar indicators is suppression of workers for joining the trade unions. Labor law is also one reason for the low evaluation of our country; the EU has already suggested the government of Georgia to amend the Labor Code several times. The rights of the employed people are not well-reflected in the Labor Code of Georgia.
