Tsotne Gamsakhurdia Cannot Attend His Trial

September 8, 2010
Attorney of Tsotne Gamsakhurdia Gela Nikolaishvili reported that the judge of the Tbilisi Appeal Court refused the defense side to allow Tsotne Gamsakhurdia to attend trials on his case. Gamsakhurdia was expelled from the court-room for the disrespect and insulting to the court.

However, the judge satisfied the motion of the lawyers to interrogate the expert of the Levan Samkharauli Forensic Expertise National Bureau. The expert will be interrogated regarding the expertise conclusion he has made. The expertise was carried out based on the request of the lawyers and the defense side claims that the graphic expertise confirmed the fabrication of one of the documents in the case materials.

Next trial on Gamsakhurdia’s case is scheduled for September 14. The attorneys appealed the decision of the Tbilisi City Court at the Tbilisi Appeal Court which sentenced Gamsakhurdia to the imprisonment for 9 years and 6 months. He was convicted for the attempted murder and illegal purchase-possession of weapon. Gamsakhurdia was arrested on October 27, 2009.
