Teachers and Parents VS Director

September 13, 2010
Part of teachers from Makhinjauri public school and parents of pupils are against Gocha Chitidze, candidate of the ministry of education of Adjara for the position of a school director. They said the background of Chitidze and his past experience as a teacher is unacceptable for them. They request a person with respectable background to be the director of the public school.

“According to our information, several schools – school # 4, 12 and women’s gymnasium, declined his candidature to be the director of their schools. The ministry has authority to appoint the school director but our personnel requests to select normal candidature who will be able to manage the school process well.”

The parents of the pupils also joined the protest of teachers and state they would hold protest demonstrations if their requests are not satisfied.

Adjara ministry of education states that the information about the director of the Makhinjauri public school was already sent to Tbilisi. “Gocha Chitidze has good qualification. He has worked in the education system,” said the deputy minister of education of Adjara Lamzira Bolkvadze.

Until now, the wife of the former chairperson of the Khelvachauri district municipality board Manana Dumbadze was interim director at Makhinjauri public school. Part of parents said that the rating of the school decreased during the young director. Teachers said they had petitioned to the ministry of education and requested her resignation several times.
