September 17, 2010
Law enforcement officials detained the head of the NGO Union against Corruption, Contraband and Economic Crime Boris Mamisashvili. The prosecutor’s office accuses Mamisashvili in committing crime envisaged by the Part 2 of article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Mamisashvili is accused of selling house under someone else’s ownership illegally. The detainee has been transferred to the prison.

The Union against Corruption, Contraband and Economic Crime has been registered by Gurjaani Regional Court in 2005. As the former members of this organization stated to Kakheti Information Center, in exchange for union membership identification cards, Mamisashvili took 100-100 lari from them. According to them, after the “check” of their shops, open markets and other enterprises, the owners of the departments started negotiating with Mamisashvili and paid certain money to the organization as a donation.

Boris Mamisashvili is accused of cooperation with Constitutional Security Department, Special Operative Department and Finance Police. The arrest of the head of the Civil Registry Agency Giuli Lomidze by the General Inspection of the Ministry of Justice is linked to his name. Lomidze is accused of the fraud of documents and bribe taking. Also, the arrest of the head of the Military Call and Registration Service of the Sagarejo Municipality Government by the officials of Kakheti Agency of the Investigation Department of the Revenue Service is linked to Boris Mamisashvili. According to the investigation information, Goderdzishvili took 2000 lari in exchange for the adjournment of the military call of youth of paramilitary age.

Mamisashvili family members are not commenting on Mamisashvili’s arrest.
